Virginias Ben Vander Plas out for season with broken hand

Virginia forward Ben Vander Plas will miss the remainder of the 2022-23 season with a fractured right hand, coach Tony Bennett announced Thursday. Here’s what you need to know:

Backstory

Vander Plas had started the Cavaliers’ last 14 games, averaging 7.4 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 30.3 percent from 3 during that span. Before transferring to Virginia last spring, Vander Plas spent four seasons at Ohio where he averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds across 122 games.

The Cavaliers open postseason play Thursday against North Carolina (20-12) in the ACC tournament quarterfinals.
